Sony Pictures' Official Trailer for "Slender Man" is Out... But Don't Watch it Before Bed!

"Well, better late than never!" That's what we imagine horror fans across the globe are saying this very instant, in response to the recently released official trailer for Sony Pictures Entertainment's upcoming film, Slender Man.

Based off the creepypasta internet character of the same name, the film has been anticipated ever since the character's creation in 2009. Over the years, however, Slender Man's lore has taken on a life of its own, and even led to a real-life infant stabbing in 2014. Since then, the controversy surrounding this malevolent myth has only grown, hitting a very real chord with children and worried parents alike.

Notably, Bill Weier, the father of the young girl who helped commit the stabbing, is not super pleased with the slated release. Four years after the shocking crime, Weier finds the upcoming film to be "extremely distasteful", and has advised local theaters to not screen the movie on its May 18th release date later this year.

No surprise here- we're really excited about this one. But not only because we're rabid fans of horror. As a character, Slender Man is a fascinating example of how internet lore infiltrates and shapes human minds and cultures.

As should be expected, the trailer has been met with very mixed reviews. But we want to hear what YOU think. Be sure to let us know after you watch!

Check out the the trailer below, if you dare!!

"Terror strikes when four teenage girls in a small town perform a ritual to debunk the lore of a tall, thin, horrifying figure known as the Slender Man. They soon fear that the legend is true when one of them suddenly goes missing." -Wikipedia
