23 Images of Epic Halloween Makeup and Photography by Amanda Chapman

Amanda Chapman from Muscle Shoals, Alabama, is a self taught makeup artist and photographer. Even though she was born on Christmas day, Halloween is her favorite holiday. When her husband got ill in August of 2012, she started the "31 Days of Halloween" makeup project to take her family's mind off the situation. The following images are from her third year doing this and the results are nothing but spectacular. You can join her Facebook page here to see the whole project, and you can contact her through her website.

Amanda is the model, makeup artist and photographer for all the images in the gallery. Below, Amanda describes how she achieved each of her creative, spooky looks.

Enjoy!

1. Tin Man

For my Tin Man makeup, I used Mehron's Synwax to sculpt his nose, chin, bolts on the face and the heart on his chest and applied each with spirit gum. For the collar and bow tie, I cut a piece of white foam paper into the desired shapes and painted those, plus myself with Mehron's Paradise Palette in silver. The bolts on the chest are hand painted.

Products used:

Mehron Paradise Palette in silver, red, white, black and light brown

Mehron Synwax

Baldcap

2. Nosferatu

To my knowledge, Nosferatu was the very first onscreen vampire. Bram Stoker's Dracula was the first novel (Stoker's widow sued the filmmakers because they did not get permission to make a movie based on the Dracula novel). The silent film was released in 1922 and to this day Nosferatu is one of the creepiest vampires in my opinion.

Products used:

Vampire Stack in gray

Urban Decay black eyeliner

Bald Cap & Vampire teeth from Halloween Express

Mehron Synwax for nose and ears

Black contact lenses

3. Pale Man (Pan's Labyrinth)

This makeup....where do I begin? The hardest part of being Pale Man was taking the photograph of Pale Man. The eyes are a molding wax substance and every time I even slightly bent my hand, they smeared. Plus I had masking tape on my fingers. I'm just so happy I was able to get this shot.

Products used:

Bald cap
Spirit Gum
Mehron Synwax
Mehron Paradise Palette in black & red
L'Oreal True Match foundation in natural

4. Pepper

I've had SO many people request Pepper or any character from American Horror Story. Pepper was on AHS Asylum & now this season of AHS Freakshow. For this makeup I used Mehron's Synwax to create Pepper's large nose and big ears. For her hair, or lack there of, I applied a bald cap and cut a slit in the top and pulled part of a brown wig through the slit and tied a bow on it. I also stippled all over the top of her head with brown and black body paint with soft steel wool to create a shaved head look. Pretty much the same technique that I used on my Jared Leto makeup.

6. Walker

This makeup is in honor of the season 5 premier of The Walking Dead! This year I wanted to try something different and paint the features instead of using a prosthetic and fake blood. TWD originally started as a comic series so this is my tribute I was inspired by the first season's bicycle girl walker. I have to say that this is one of my personal favorites this year of my 31 Days but of course I am partial to zombies.

I had never heard of Blind Mag or The Genetic Opera until Laren Lindholm & Erin Lynn requested her makeup. So I watched a clip on YouTube of her singing a beautiful opera song and I was like okay this is nice and then...well you can imagine what she does with those pointy fingernails. I came very close to doing a more graphic version of Blind Mag but I decided to keep her well, "pretty"

“I like your doll”

I hope the fans approve of my tribute! Annabelle and I have close to the same hair color so I just used some clip in bangs and braided my hair. I'm wearing a vintage wedding gown I found at a thrift store. I've listed the products used to create this doll look below.

16. Psycho

Cue the Psycho music.

This is NOT a black and white photo. I used black, white and gray makeup to achieve this look. I wanted the same effect with the blood on the knife so I applied black face paint to the tip and then sprayed Zombie Blood Spray which has a blackish color to it. I put on two wigs to give the impression that Norman has a gray wig on himself.

20. Jared Leto

Since I've done so many fictional characters I decided to do a transformation to a current well known person...and while you might think this is Jesus in a sports coat, it's musician/actor Jared Leto. For Jared's ombre hair, I put on a brown wig and left my hair down underneath and brought the blond from my hair out towards the ends. To create facial hair I used a clean soft steel wool wrap thing called a lint trap that attaches to the end of your faucet and applied the light and dark brown body paint to it and patted it on in areas I felt the beard should be.

21. Edgar Allan Poe & The Raven

“Be that word our sign in parting, bird or fiend!” I shrieked, upstarting—

“Get thee back into the tempest and the Night’s Plutonian shore!

Leave no black plume as a token of that lie thy soul hath spoken!

Leave my loneliness unbroken!—quit the bust above my door!

Take thy beak from out my heart, and take thy form from off my door!”

Quoth the Raven “Nevermore.”
