The Soska sisters, who became famous in horror circles for their film American Mary and See No Evil 2 are working on the remake for David Cronenberg’s 1977 film Rabid. Over at Bloody Disgusting, they have a first look at the film as part of a video on female creators and fans in horror films.
In this special news item on female directors, the Soska sisters reveal the first footage from their Rabid remake and explain the background behind it. Told from a female perspective, Vandervoort’s character is being harassed by a man and gets what’s coming to him. One of the gifts of getting more female directors behind the camera is that we’ll be treated to new interpretations of material through the “female gaze.”
I’ve enjoyed everything the Soska Sisters have done so far and Rabid as a beloved Canadian horror film. I can’t wait to see the remake and see what other female creators bring to the horror genre.
