A woman visiting a rural region outside of Moscow discovered a lump on her face that would move around every fifteen minutes or so was actually a parasitic worm called Dirofilaria repens and I am going to puke and go back to bed before I write any more.
So that's a thing that happened. And it was reported in CNN and now I know about it and you have to as well.
To remove the worm, doctors used local anesthetic and then clamped the lump. After making an incision over the lump, they used forceps to extract the worm.
Generally speaking, the parasite usually infects dogs and other small animals. It infects via mosquitos, who inject the larva into the skin during a bite.
Now this IS a very rare condition and generally doesn't cause any lasting harm to humans but I am still never leaving my apartment again.
