When Nolan Whale asked the Make-A-Wish foundation to let him spend the day with the designers of legendary role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons, he started an adventure that ended in the creation of one of the most interesting new monsters in D&D lore.
Called an Oblex, the monster is the product of the evil Mind Flayers experimenting with oozes, a blob like monster that consumes everything it touches. The Mind Flayers gifted the typically unintelligent oozes with a measure of their psychic abilities and the shape-shifting Oblex was born.
An Oblex kills and consumes its prey, a duplicate is spit out and connected to the Oblix by a tiny umbilical cord. This duplicate can interact with other people, leading more unwitting victims towards the Oblex's clutches.
I can't wait to add one of these to my campaign. Bravo to Nolan and the D&D team!
