Whelp. Guess I’m old.
The trailer for Jordan Peele’s upcoming film “Us” has got fans of 90s hip-hop nodding their heads to a creepy version of “I Got Five On It.” Kids these days might not be familiar with it, but people in their mid-thirties will remember the hit by Luniz. The song is all about chipping in to buy weed, but when you slow it down and make it extra creepy it makes the perfect music for a tale of a family under siege.
Over at XXL, they discuss the fan reaction to the song:
"I love songs that have a great feeling but also have a haunting element to them and I feel like the beat in that song has this inherent cryptic energy, almost reminiscent of the Nightmare on Elm Street soundtrack," Peele continued. "So those were the ideas that that song hit the bullseye on for me, and also, it’s just a dope track.”
